Welcome post

Welcome to the blogs of Hector Lopez & Justin Montalvo we decided to name our blog growth in humanities for a couple of reasons. We named it growth humanities because we really improved since the beginning of the year, for example in the beginning of 8th grade we did not know how to read A difficult book but now we got better at it.Another reason we named it growth in humanities because we really improved in our writing, for example when both of us would write essays it would often sound boring and it wouldn't make a lot of sense or it wont be good. The reason for us choosing the essential question Should the government be responsible for the well-being of American Citizens we chose it because it was a interesting question and challenging but at the same time we really wanted to say what we think about the government.

Should the government be responsible for the well-being of its citizens?

Yes the government should be responsible for the well being of American citizens. The government should be responsible because first you are a American citizen,Its not like you are a immigrant you are here legally. Also because not all the citizens have health insurance and don't have any money to pay for the hospital bill the government should provide health insurance for the citizens who can't afford it for example children and unemployed people.

The U.S government should not provide free health insurance for those who can pay for it because they can afford the medicine they need. The government should also provide health insurance to citizens who have low income because health is one of the most important topics today. If health care was free no one will be afraid to use it and get the care they need right away for example there are so families with little children who can't afford any health care or even go to the hospital for doctors visits.I think that free health care would help poverty in America because it will be one less thing that a lot of poor people wont have to pay for.

hector & justin writing reflection

hectors reflection

when i came to the 8 grade i didn't really know how to write a good essay. During my time here in the 8 grade i learned a lot about writing for example i learned how to restate the prompt when starting a essay. I also learned how to use transition words when ever i need to in order to make the essay sound interesting. lastly i learned how to outside information to also make the essay sound better and to always include a introduction and a conclusion.
Since i came into the 8 grade i have learned many things about writing and how to improve it.For example writing everything in the correct order to be more organize and that it is important make your paragraphs connect to each other in some way so like that it makes more sense. There are several reasons why having a introduction is important because it introduces what you are about to write about or in some cases what you are about to read and it is also important to have an introduction because it can leave the reader hooked so they will read it to find out some more about it
There are also several reasons why including a conclusion is important, i think that the conclusion is the most important part of the essay because it closes it out. Also because you can write it so many different ways like it can be short or you can try and make it interesting and make it long.

Justin's reflection

when i entered the 8th grade i didn't know how to write a good & interesting essay. I also didn't know how to make my introduction connect to my first paragraph. I learned many things like planning before writing a essay and writing good notes to organize my essay.I also learned how to add my own ideas into my essay and to add outside information to make my essay more effective. If i was to pick one thing that i will remember most of writing a essay it will probably be to restate the prompt i will remember it most because it can make your essay sound really good & interesting & when you use it it will make it easier to write.
Writing in 8th grade was kinda hard & difficult & sometimes frustrating but now i feel a lot better about my writing and writing a essay,i feel like i can write about anything and make it sound great & effective & attractive. Now when i write or write a essay i feel better about it & i feel i could write along time.

hector & justin reading reflection

Hector's Reflection

The remark that comes closest to the way i feel about reading "i really didn't read before 8th grade and now i feel better about it".The book that i liked the most this year was "On the field with Derek Jeter" by Matt Christopher. What made this book important was that it was about Baseball and because it was a biography.I like baseball because it is not all about having skills it is about being smart and thinking.
One thing about about independent reading in humanities class that i liked was talking to my partner about my book and about what i read during independent reading. One thing that i didn't like about independent reading was that it was too long and quiet.
When i read there is one thing that i find frustrating is that when some books have small words on a page so it makes a page longer.Since the page is longer it takes me longer to read the page or finish the chapter.

Justin's reflection

The remark that comes closest to the way i feel about reading is that "I really didn't read before 8th grade and now i feel better about it",now when i read good books it makes me want 2 read because some books are interesting & when i read some pages i just want to keep going and going but thats only sometimes.
The book that i liked the most this year was "The lost boy" by Dave Pelzer.the thing that made this book important was that it made me realize how serious child abuse is & y people will want 2 hit/torture kids. There is 1 thing that i did not like about independent reading was that when im into a really good book & we read 4 a little like 10 or 15 minutes & when im not into a book & i really don't wanna read it we read for about 25 or 30 minutes that was kinda frustrating. My reading goals for the future is to accomplish more reading speed & to read more books that are challenging & to read more books in a month.this is what i feel about reading and how i feel about it & what i want to do to make my reading skills better
